英国一个环保组织周一（1月19日）呼吁民众帮忙前往Eastbourne一个海滩帮忙进行清洁，原因是一艘货柜轮船上月发生意外，导致16个货柜堕海，其中装有薯条与洋葱的货柜货物被冲到海滩上，让海滩变成“黄金海岸”。

英国广播公司（BBC）报道，居民邦尼奇（Joel Bonnici）前往海滩散步时，发现岸上满地薯条，最密集的区域积聚约2.5呎厚。

他“不得不仔细地看了两遍”，称“这片海滩看起来像加勒比海的金色沙滩”。

邦尼奇表示，“清除胶袋是当务之急”，因为附近有一小群海豹，如果它们看到这些袋子，会玩弄或试图吃掉。这对它们来说很是危险。

东萨塞克斯郡议会亦敦促民众在前往海岸线时需格外小心，带狗人士要用牵引绳拴好狗狗，因为冲到岸边的某些食物残渣可能对它们有害。
